Implementation of project-based remediation

All Envirotis Holding LLC construction companies have extensive experience in the implementation of projects regarding environmental remediation and the reclamation of damaged areas. Remediation aims to reduce identified pollution in specific areas to decrease specified limit values by eliminating contamination sources and performing other necessary technical tasks (e.g. land use planning, water management, facility stabilization, recultivation, clean soil filling, reconstruction).

As a result of our efforts, each remediated area is made suitable for future use, e.g. as a site for new plants and factories. With recultivation, a state similar to the original is reinstated. Our construction companies also undertake full aftercare and monitoring system operation services on remediated areas.

Project implementation areas

Based on technical intervention documentation, technical implementation takes wastes and polluted soils, removes them, pre-treats and/or transports them to an accredited waste disposal site, or treats them on-site, thus ensuring the highest possible rate of recycling. It then builds and operates a water treatment system for the cleaning of surface and subsurface waters. This is followed in the final step by landscaping and planting of various flora.

Types of jobs carried out:

  • High-volume (more than 100,000 metric tons) earthwork: waste, polluted geological strata, with primary reference to industrial-type pollution
  • Remediation and dredging of water flows (longer than 10km) and lakes; removal of toxic metals and organic pollutants
  • Treatment of mining waste, recultivation of abandoned mining sites
  • Recultivation and landscape integration of ash lagoons and dump sites
  • Elimination of deposited wastes, construction of new dump sites
  • On-site mechanical and biological treatment (grinding, sorting, screening, biological treatment, stabilisation)
  • Surface and subsurface water treatment, installation and operation of water cleaning technologies
  • Execution of on-site tasks

The group’s construction company performs all project-related technical administration tasks(maintenance of a site log and operating log and preparation of a certificate of completion) and archiving, and ensures compliance with health and work safety regulations, including the updating of related records.

During the monitoring stage, the construction company continuously checks the quality of excavated polluted materials and decides on further treatment, then tests the condition of remaining geological strata, verifying compliance with what is known as the “D” remediation limit value. Then, as part of the post-monitoring activities it conducts after remediation has been finalised, it regularly checks the area for compliance with the limit values specified in regulations.

Recultivation

As the final step in recultivation, i.e. integration into the landscape, the company restores conditions similar to the original state of the remediated area. Recultivation is accomplished by selecting plants suited to the local natural environment. Where required, the nutritional value of the backfilled soil is ameliorated for this purpose through the addition of various auxiliary materials (fertilizer, sand). Aftercare may also include mowing, gardening, the addition of nutrients, and topsoil supplementation.
